History

Cleveland sits in the Northeast corner of Ohio on the southern shore of Lake Erie, along the Cuyahoga River. The city was founded in 1796 and became a major manufacturing center. John D. Rockefeller, the founder of Standard Oil, made a majority of his fortune in Cleveland, which brought the city to become the fifth largest in the country. The Terminal Tower, located in the heart of downtown Cleveland, was once one of the world’s tallest buildings. Dedicated in 1930, the building was part of a skyscraper boom in the 1920’s and 1930’s.

Culture and Entertainment

Most famously noted for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this city has points of interest and entertainment for everyone.

If you are interested in the performing arts, the Cleveland Playhouse is noted as the second largest Performing Arts center in the United States. The city of Cleveland has also been the spotlight of several movies including Antwone Fisher, A Christmas Story, and scenes of Spiderman 3. The city is also home of the popular sitcom, the Drew Carey Show.

For a historic and charming experience make sure to visit Tremont, one of the city’s oldest and most historically valuable neighborhoods. Take a stroll through a quarter mile of award-winning restaurants, shopping, and historic architecture. Tremont is known for having one of the largest concentrations of architecturally notable churches to be found anywhere in the United States.

Sports

Cleveland is the home of the Cleveland Indians (MLB), Cleveland Browns (NFL), and Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA). The Cleveland Indians hold the Major League record of 455 for most consecutive sold out games, while the Cleveland Cavaliers earned the eastern conference championship title this year.
